Kingdom of Heaven
While not exactly an epic crusade, we
at Dumpyork have had historical impact. And by “We”, I mean all the
people who sign the petition, post to the bulletin board, call in to
the radio programs, wear the T-shirts, chant at games or just mention
us at the water cooler. Whether you found Dumpyork by accident or
were kicked off the Niner’s official site for speaking your mind, know
that your opinions have been heard, and that has helped.
“We” helped, because if there is one
thing we know York cares
about, it is money. Fear of an organized boycott starts with fear of
organization. Dumpyork gives voice, awareness and form for that
ultimate Sports power-house, the fan’s pocket book.
And while this is not
exactly Heaven, soon we’ll see our new #1 draft pick on the cover of
Sports Illustrated. The first time a Niner has blessed that cover where
he wasn’t an action prop since the 90’s. I like the attention, except
when I remind myself what it took to get it, going 2-14.
Going 2-14 got Nolan a new job, a 49er
on the cover of Sports Illustrated and a bay-area full of angry fans,
but it is just too much to expect us to be angry all the time. I’m
happy we have a new coach. I’m happy we have a player on the cover of
SI. I’m happy we may have a better season in front of us, than we had
behind us.
Bottom line is that was the easy
stuff. The NFL is not forgiving and we shouldn’t be either. Being
optimistic is not a pardon. We deserve a better season; we lived
through the last one. Keep the faith where it belongs, in the
organization, in the players and in your pocket book.
