Inter Office Memo
To: Owner, Dr. York
From: Administrative Assistant, Cindy Spankwater
Date: 11/15/04
Gross operating income was off this week. This
is primarily due to the increasing number of no-shows and the growing
trend of attendees to leave after the beginning of the fourth quarter.
I’ve asked research to look into reasons for this trend – at this point
nobody has returned my call. Causes are Too Be Determined (TBD). Yet, a
further breakdown of revenue by source reveals some interesting trends.
Gross sales of food concessions, including hotdogs, popcorn, nachos,
etc, were off by 5.78%. Liquid concessions were also off seriously,
8.28%. Not surprising given the dropping attendance. Yet, average
alcoholic consumption per attendee was up an astounding 15%. For some
reason customers are drinking more heavily. I’ve asked research to
provide a motive for trend (may be an opportunity here); TBD.
Purchases of 49er paraphernalia is also way
off. Hats down 12%, jerseys down 22%, t-shirts down 36%, and foam hands
with “We’re #1” off an astounding 89% (Again, I’m having research look
into this, TBD). What is interesting is we are getting a number of
requests for foam hands showing the middle finger; think there may be
substantial revenue opportunity here; having product development look
into this, TBD.
Finance has a number of suggestions to help off set the dropping
revenues. Putting a soda vending machine in the player’s locker room
has passed the sniff test. Marketing really liked this idea because
players never have single dollar bills, much less spare change. They
seem to feel the players would consider it a convenience if we charged
$5 a soda. Net income per soda would be Cha-Ching! Finance also
suggests we also start charging for towels. It would help cover the
cleaning costs and cut down on over usage. Marketing thinks the $5 rule
would apply here as well, Cha Ching! I’ve asked Operations to look into
this; TBD.
Good News; the GM called and said the team will likely receive a very
high draft pick next year, “probably one or two”. Why, I don’t know,
but I brought this up with finance and they called the GM and suggested
he start researching ascending offensive linemen from the Pac 10. What
is the Pac 10 anyway? Nevermind : ) GM has yet to return finances call;
TBD.
Oh, one last note, your team got bludgeoned like a baby seal at a
Siberian barbeque this week. Seems to be a trend, I’m having research
look into this: TBD.
