Philly
Phiasco*
No joy after
Sunday’s fiasco
in Philadelphia. Not that I
was expecting a victory. But jeez,
couldn’t we just a least have a better showing.
As it was, it was the 49ers' worst
regular-season loss since a 59-14
pasting at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys in 1980, when Bill Walsh was
in his
second season as their coach. Overall, it was their worst defeat since
a 49-3
loss to the New York Giants during the 1986 playoffs.
So what did we
learn
yesterday? Well, I know for sure that
Tim Rattay is not the answer. Nor is
Kevin Barlow. The team lacks a true
quarterback and a true running game. The team lacks depth
everywhere, particularly
on the offensive line. The offense
cannot stay on the field long enough to give the defense a break.
The
team cannot generate enough pressure without blitzing, which leaves the
defensive
backs hopelessly exposed.
Question: What was more shocking, Tim Rattay’s halftime
Quarterback rating of 0.0 or the lack of heart demonstrated by Kevin
Barlow?
For me, I could not
believe
how bad Tim Rattay looked. He was
throwing off of his back foot and looked like he was scared sitting in
the pocket.
Much of this can be
attributed to the
Offensive Line not giving him any time.
So how about we put him in the shot gun or
some roll out plays?
With Kevin Barlow,
I am now convinced
that he lacks any desire to hit the hole.
How about we just cut him and eat the salary,
or let him rust away on
the bench? I would rather see some one
who wants to play than this joke.
How do we fix the
Offensive
Line? Well, there is next year’s draft,
but until then, how about we use our fullback as a blocking back. Yet there was Beasley sitting on the
sidelines for almost the entire second half. Not only could he
have
helped with run and pass blocking, but he could have tried to run and
catch the
ball too.
I will leave the
defense
alone for now, despite the 583 of total yards that Philadelphia gained. They
had some good moments, but broke down due to lack of pressure and
spending to
much time on the field.
The good news,
there is
another game next week. How about them
Cowpukes?
