Jen's Soap Box

Talk about Confusing!

I'm still not sure how to feel following the Niners' victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. I always root for a Niners' win-it's engrained in me, like breathing air, etc. It's my nature.

So there I was on Sunday, not knowing how to feel as the clock was winding down in the last quarter of the game, and it became obvious that the Niners were in a position to really win.

I couldn't help but notice that, although it was great for Mike Adams to intercept the ball and put us in the position to win, it looked like the Texans' intended receiver kind of pulled his arms back (a la Brandon Lloyd) when it looked like the pass was catchable for him, and some of my fellow Bunker denizens joked that he "must have gotten the memo" from management. Although our changes at snagging Reggie Bush were getting worse and worse, I can imagine Dr. Dork dropping to his knees and giving thanks for a win that really allowed him to put his checkbook away, rather than having to sign an expensive player. It's right in line with his cheap attitude.

So, of course, Joe Nedney kicks the field goal and we win, which is great, but as he's lining it up and it's only a 33-yard attempt (hell, he kicked one for 56 yards last week!), I'm completely confused about whether to be hopeful or sending him the memo to swing and miss and up our chances. I know a lot of you out there were feeling the same way, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

So, as the season comes to a close, the upside is that we doubled our number of wins-something Niner management is going to spout about time and again this off-season. Don't get me wrong…I'm really happy with the way the team improved, especially defensively, and I feel a lot of confidence that, between hicks and Gore, we'll have some kind of a running game next year.

Now, if only the front office situation could improve. Next year, I hope.
