My One Man Protest
I was given tickets to last Sunday’s 49er game
versus the Cardinals. So Sunday morning I
put on my “Dump York” T-shirt and grabbed my brown paper bag that I had
cut two eye holes in and had written “Dumpyork.com” on either side. I arrived at Candlestick around noon and
parked in the far parking lot across the street from the stadium and
main lot.
I told my dad “Take lots of picture”. I had known about previous
confrontations with security on the
Dumpyork.com board and I was prepared maybe even asking for a
confrontation with security. Then I
started walking towards the stadium wearing my shirt and bag. The response was immediate.
On my way to the entrance I was given cheers,
thumbs up, questions about the site and then after my explanation the
people would seem excited to check it out when they got home. I even stopped to take pictures with a few
fans. I didn’t receive any negativity
until I got to the gate.
I got in line. It was “Toys for Tots” day
and we started talking to the people who the fans were giving the money
and toys too. They were interested in the
sites cause. Then a security lady came up
to me
“You can’t wear that bag on your head” she said
“Why not?” I replied back.
“We don’t let fans in the stadium were bags on there head”
“I don’t not like the
49ers. I’m a 49er FAN!”
“Sorry, sir”
So I threw the bag in the dumpster.
She started to leave. Then the Toys for Tots man said “They made you
get rid of it?!”
“Ya” I said
She came back and said “Your going to need to get rid of that shirt
also”
“What?! Are you kidding my?!” I yelled trying to cause a scene so more
people would learn of the cause and see first hand what John York’s
goon squad does.
“No”
“What about my freedom of speech.”
“Private property, you’re going to at least need to turn it inside out”
As I the took my shirt
off to put it back on inside out the toys for tots guy said surprised.
“There making your turn it inside out?!”
“Yes” I replied
“What is that site about?”
“It’s about getting rid of John York, so things like this don’t happen”
The guy laughed as the security lady gave me a scowl and
walked away.
Later that day I thought of a very good point that I wish I
would have argued with her at the time. They
let in people with Raider jerseys, Cowboy, jerseys, and Cardinal
jerseys, and yet a loyal 49er fan for my whole life must turn his shirt
inside out, a fan who just wants to win again must throw away and turn
inside out what he believes.
Well John, you made me throw out my bag and
turn my shirt inside out, but I am proud to tell you that when I got
into the stadium I immediately turned it back. I
also received all positive remarks from fans.
