Hunter's Shot

Alex Smith + Mike Nolan = 49er Success?

In Week 1 Mike Nolan inspired the team into believing, believing in Nolan’s system and believing they could win.  Now heading into week 5 and 49ers can’t even keep up with the Cardinals.  What happened?  Nolan got the bus rolling but slammed on the breaks.  It is not so much Rattay’s fault then it is Nolan’s fault.  Against the Cowboys did Rattay play defense? No.  He was too busy throwing bombs to Brandon Lloyd in the end zone.

With that all said I am behind his decision to play Smith.  Nolan lost his inspired team and now has little hopes of claiming his goal of winning the division.  This gave him the chance to put in Smith.  I believe Rattay is better than Smith, but Smith is the future and needs to get some playing time even if it means him throwing 4 interceptions, 0 touchdowns, and 0 passes to a starting Wide Receiver.  Smith has two ways to go the Tim Couch path to someone forgotten about or a record setting, MVP, must have fantasy player Peyton Manning.  Well I agree with Nolan on this, but it shouldn’t have gone this far.  We should be 3-2 right now.

Mike Nolan here’s why you won your first game and you haven’t won since.  The first game the players came out with intensity.  They believed in what you taught.  Your razzle-dazzle plays pumped up the crowd and the players.  I believe the defense still has this intensity although they are lacking in health, skill, and rest the two touchdown’s scored right away against Arizona is proof enough.  Somehow you need to get the offense to play hard also.  Get Barlow to run hard and take a hit, get the offensive line to end that record streak the 49er’s hold for consecutive game’s with a sack.

Nolan you were Rollin’, but with gas prices so high you’ve seemed to run out.
