Guest Ranter  -   Jamie Lynne  -  December 20, 2004

How can you people continue to make excuses for us?

Many of you continue to blame the players for sucking... well yes they do. But the reason lies deeper than bad quarterbacks, bad running backs, and bad offensive linemen. Who hired them? Who coaches them? THOSE PEOPLE ARE THE PROBLEMS!

Erickson---------

Excuses: Inherited a bad team with poor ownership and is having to make due with talentless players and noncommitment from  the owners.

Truth: Erickson inherited a 10-6 division champion team that lost JJ Stokes and Dave Fiore as the only starters and turned it into a 7-9 joke. Is continuing his demise of this franchise by refusing to play our young players. It's ok to hold back the young guys but not during a rebuilding season. Otherwise what's the point of rebuilding? And what exactly are we rebuilding from since the last time we 'rebuilt'?

COUNTLESS times has Erickson made poor decisions on the field. For as much as Erickson seems all over Todd Peterson's balls, why again are we devoutly punting the ball from inside our opponents 30 yard line? And what happened to our down the field offense? You know, the one that needs a tall strong armed and smart QB... traits that neither Rattay, Dorsey, or Pickett share.

Donahue--------

Excuses: Doesn't have any money to work with because of stingy owner and was left with salary cap problems from previous management.

Truth: Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark left over 5 years ago... the salary cap problems we inherited from them were dealt with in 1999 and 2000 and we rebounded under the guidance of Bill Walsh. Donahue did something no general manager should do dealing with millions upon millions of dollars... he made the same mistake twice. He is the reason for all of our 'dead money' woes currently, with the contracts his name was on for guys like Jeff Garcia, Terrell Owens, and Garrison Hearst.

Lest we not forget Donahue's continuing ignorance by handing out GIANT contract to unproven players like Barlow and Rattay and already provenly bad players like Engleberger and Plummer. God help our salary woes should Julian Peterson have accepted the contract offered to him, we would never recover from him.

Donahue went on record as saying we might win 5 games this season before it all started. Ok well that's certainly inspiring. Not only did he predict a horrible season, but he even further OVERESTIMATED our talent and coaching because we won't come close to 5 wins. What is the point of playing if we aren't going to be competitive?

York-----------

Excuses: He is new to this business and is limited by his wife, who hates the 49ers.

Truth: While his wife hates this organization, he truly controls it. He writes the checks. Most people in a new ownership situation would keep their hands off and leave decisions to the people under him who know about football... but now. York saw that Mariucci was on the verge of something good and didn't want Steve to take ANY credit for it and definitely wouldn't let him have more control, so what did he do? Fire him in one of the most disrespectful situations is sports history.

York has absolutely no idea what he is doing. Sometimes owners can get away with being clueless so long as they don't DO anything, but York DOES everything and meddles in things he doesn't need to be involved with.

We all know how cheap he is and how he inherited this team through marriage and is personally reaping the profits but initiating vast cost cutting measures. Boy that must really send a good message to our players. York cares more about 37 cent stamps than he does keeping our best players and giving them a worthy coach. Free agents and draftees alike will dread coming to San Francisco in this situation, where no one in the front office, coaches included, have the foggiest idea of what is happening.

Eddie DeBartolo left over 5 years ago... and York has still not given us a new stadium. I wouldn't mind playing in a dump if our team was winning because that is truly all I care about. But York insists upon delaying the stadium and there is no way he will help fund any of it. He is here to siphon every penny before this team truly becomes worthless.
