Being that I live in Ohio now
(used to live in San Francisco) the only
place I can usually watch the 49ers play is at a sports bar. Every week
I show up, decked in my apparel, to be greeted by laughing and
ridiculing. And while I expect that every team goes through its swings,
and I should count myself lucky that my favorite franchise has always
been a league force, I take the ridiculing in stride and let it slide.
Yet, should anyone be subjected to a situation where wearing your team
jersey provides a good laugh from everyone at a bar?
Things in
San Francisco have spiraled out of control, and not just on the field,
but off of it too. How long are we going to let this stadium issue
slide? Until it caves in on itself? That would likely provide York with
the quick and easy exit he is probably looking for. York is driving
this thing into the ground, and no ammount of argument as to our salary
cap problem can overshadow the many growing concerns with the front
office, stadium, and coaching. The league has shown a distaste for the
ownership, let alone its fans. If you would have told me ten years ago
that Cowboys fans (who I have hated for years but now I am showing some
forgiveness) and Cowboys management were hoping for a regime change in
San Francisco to bring the franchise to its former glory I would have
laughed in your face. Our rivals our ashamed of our franchise!!!
A sports team is nothing without its fans, and as such the franchise
should serve its fans with an allegiance that serves as their revenue
base and basic existance. Dr York, you have shown a blatent disregard
for the health of this team and therefore you are betraying your
fanbase, a fanbase which serves as the lifeline and stakeholders of
this team. How far are you going to let this slide? With no new stadium
on the horizon, how are you going to compete with free agent revenues
of other clubs once our deferred salary cap payments have been
alleviated? With no new stadium, with increased luxury box seating, the
team will not be able to compete with the free agent cash that other
teams are working with. Yet, this new stadium issue has been pushed
back and dodged for years and years, and the only reason I can see why
this is happening is your inherent refusal to spend any of your own
money, instead clearly wishing the city would bear the entire economic
burden. Your city could use the economic lift that a stadium/mall
complex would provide, and coincidentally you would be able to give
back to the fans something in return for their loyalty to the team
which continues to sell tickets and jerseys. Things just can not
continue like they are, or one day you will lose your fans, and when
you lose your fans you lose your team...
And when you lose your team your stuck with a lot of expenses and no
revenues. Please reconcider your position with this 'business'.
