Is there
hope?
Here is a shocker, the Niners suck. But in
the great scheme of life, that is not important. What is important is
how much longer the 49ers will continue to suck? For that, the answer
really scares me.
I could easily rant about how bad the game in Nashville was. That third
quarter was embarrassing. The Niners can't play on the road. Barlow
still sucks. Harris is terrible. Blah, blah, blah. But there is nothing
new here. We knew it would be bad. Maybe not this bad, but we all knew
it would take a couple of years. But I want to know where the
improvement is going to come from?
In the forum we like to talk about drafting Reggie Bush or trading down
for more picks or resurrecting Joe Montana. All of which would be fine
with me if I trusted those making the decisions. And that is the
problem. The more I see from Nolan the more I think he is probably a
good coach that is tackling way too much. How much support does he get
from Scott McGloughan? After all, Nolan is the boss of all bosses that
don't carry a Vice-Presidents title. I still think the Niners need a
big time football guy in the front office to take control of the
franchise. Nothing against Nolan, but he is a rookie trying to do
everything and I have a feeling it is effecting his ability to do any
of it to our expectations.
Instead of a strong front office designed to help the face of the
franchise, we have the Yorks and their 6 Vice-Presidents. What was
that? There are 8 now? Maybe 10 by the end of this rant? Apparently
there is enough money to pay a bunch of office scabs, but there is not
enough money to pay people who know football. This is where the
fundamental flaw of this franchise lies. York has supported himself
with a bunch of yes people happy to pull out their calculators and
desktops and tell him all their great ideas they have for the faithful.
Yet a number of floors below is the young head coach responsible for
everything that is actually important; the football team.
So while York silently waits in the background pinching his pennies,
lying about stadium promises, and trying to guilt the "faithful" into
paying full price for a bunch of garbage, our football coach and leader
is trying to juggle the duties of three men. So when it comes time at
the end of the season to make the selections that could forever heal
our franchise, we may again have people in place overworked, without
experience and without a clue.
In the end, it may not matter if we win 2 games or 5 games, because the
structure of this franchise is so screwed, only luck will find the
talent to win games. And that talent will only hang around until that
next contract comes around. This team is shit, and it is not because we
looked lousy for 15 minutes in Nashville. It is because the Yorks have
completely destroyed what was once a crowned jewel!
