Bad Things Happen To
Bad Teams
For those out there who have not watched a
single play or those eternal optimists in our ranks, you can no longer
overlook the obvious. The 2005 San Francisco 49ers are a BAD team. And
I capitalize only because calling the bad may be giving them too much
credit. And when you have a bad team, somehow they find ways to have
bad things happen to them.
The first and most obvious was that obnoxious field goal return for a
touchdown to end the first half and seemingly end all hope of an upset.
The call by the coach was a bad one. In that wind, no one should have
been trying anything longer then 35 let along 52-yards. But before even
getting to that decision, the 49ers conservatism on the final drive led
to that feared choice. But bad teams let down bad coaching. And despite
a bad call by Nolan, there is no excuse for letting a man run 108 yards
virtually untouched. Just a sign that bad things happen to bad teams.
The second example was the stellar offensive series run by the Niners
after getting the ball first and goal at the two yard line. This was
their chance! They could take the lead. They could take advantage of
another team's mistake and ride it to victory. No so fast! What happens
to bad teams? Field goals! First play up the middle with Barlow. Bears
had not seen that before. Second play (I thought this call was okay but
should have been on first down) was a rollout from Pickett. But it was
poorly executed and the Bears were looking for it. Then the comedy
struck. Too many men in the huddle? I thought we got over penalties
like that in pee-wee league? Follow that five-yard penalty up with a
delay of game call. All the sudden the coaching has cost us 10-yards
and we look at third and goal at the 12. The play was embarrassing.
Picket to Lloyd on a slant. Lloyd gets scared and short arms the ball.
Then he goes to the sideline and does a bad TO impersonation. Then
blames the QB after the game for throwing the ball too early. The was
just all kinds of ugly and this was the beginning of the end for the
Niners!
To me these two examples just exemplify the Niners team. Bad players
who can not make plays. Bad coaching that does not put players in a
position to make the plays. The results are simple. Bad things
happen to bad teams.
I would really like to thank the Yorks for doing this to our beloved
franchise. After years of success and domination, bring happiness to so
many. They have stripped this franchise of talent and class. Maybe more
importantly they have stripped this franchise of any hope. Yes, thank
you York! Bad things happen to bad teams, and a bad man named York is
the man responsible for making this a bad (and again I use that term
lightly) team!
