BACK TO REALITY
Well 1-0
certainly did fell good didn't it? And how do we feel now? I don't know
I want to spend too much time analyzing that game. The Eagles are a
good team. We are not. They were pumped up and ready to play after
losing game one. We were not. Sure we all sipped from the cup of York
after game one, but anyone who thought about it knew that the first
loss of the year was coming in game two. Now did we forecast this kind
of crushing defeat? Uh, NO. I certainly expected a better effort. The
Niners were crushed in the first minute, on the third play, and it was
all downhill from there.
So now we are still tied for first at 1-1 and the question is where do
we go from here? Unfortunately I still fear we go down from here.
Beating the Rams at home gives some hope that at the Stick the NIners
will fight this year, but I am just not sure we have the talent to get
much done. I think the D is far ahead of the O. We have legit players
in BY, Peterson and Winborn. We have interesting potential in guys like
Gore, Spencer and Sopoago (sp?). But as good as our LBs might be, I
think our DBs are not up to the challenge. On offense I just dont see
much to like. Rattay is as good as his offensive line. The OL is not
that good. The WRs are adequate on a good day. And the running game is
just non-existent.
I belive the Cowboys are a vastly improved team (this is being typed
before the MNF game) so I think the Niners will have their hands full
this upcoming week. While that first victory over the Rams was sweet, I
think the NFC West is one of the worst divisions. So I think the Niners
will struggle mightily against non-division foes. What does this mean?
It means we have another long season in front of us. How how good it
felt to be 1-0. But while losing 42-3 I believe was an abberration, the
losing will not be. The goals for this season must be to improve. A few
more wins. A lot more chemistry. And most importantly finish strong.
But it will take some time, and we will feel the heat in the coming
weeks.
Reality hit hard Sunday. But it is a reality we are getting used to
under the leadership of the Dorks!
