End of a long long year
Well, that was the
worst Niner season I can remember. Sure we have had equally as bad
seasons, but I remember a sense of hope back then. Not now. That was
ugly and I do not see signs of improvement. The coaches need to go, the
general manager and scouting departments need to go, and most
importantly we need the Yorks to go!
This season
was not Dennis Ericksons fault. Let's face it, he got a bad deal. He
got subpar players and was told to win with them. All his veterans from
last years team were cut. The talent that was on the team eventually
got hurt. But while a part of me feels sorry for Erickson, he did
nothing to help his cause. Even on bad teams, you see should see
improvement as the season goes along. Did the Niners improve at all?
Anywhere? Rather than developing the young players into professional
football players, we saw a bunch of young guns running around the field
with the deer in the headlights syndrome. Can we name one player on the
Niners who we can honestly say is better today than he was in the
preseason? Not sure I can. That my friends is coaching! Time for a new
staff.
The general
manager and his scouts have proved they have no clue on talent
evaluation. While I just dinged Erickson, Donahue did not exactly give
him much to work with. Rashaun Woods did not work out. Justin Smiley
the #2 pick did not look like a starte. Last years #1 pick Kwame
Harris regressedat tackle. While Donahue jettisoned most of the
veterans for "Cap purposes" he replaced them with under-acheiving young
athletes that were picked higher than they should have been. While
other teams have draft picks coming in and improving their teams right
away, the Niners have none. Time to re-think the Niner strategy on
evaluating talent. Apparently we have none now. Time to start afresh.
Despite a four year contract extension, time for Donahue to go and take
most of his scouts with him.
But finally, the
biggest problem of all is the ownership. It is quite clear they have no
clue. From rediculous Christmas party's to under paying throughout the
organization to market surveys in the season ticket holder communities,
this year has been a PR disaster. And how do the Yorks solve it? They
bring in their 23-year old son to run a once proud franchise! Welcome
Jed. I guess the only good news about the arrival of young Jed is it
can not get any worse right? While most owners would implode their
franchise and bring in talented people to restore peace and
tranquility, the Yorks have passed along our true love to a 23-year
old, pimple faced, college graduate! Our savior?
Yes, the coaches
need to go, the
player personel department needs to go, but most importantly the Yorks
must go! This has been a horrible season. That in itself would be okay
if we had any hope for improvement in the coming years. But next year,
I sense 6-10 and a PR department spin of "look how we have improved
under the leadershipe of John and Jed York. Only great things are in
our future." I am not buying it. Greatness starts at the top and I do
not think 6-10 is a return to greatness. Please Dr. York, Denise, and
maybe even Jed, Please Sell the team! Only then will you be our
saviors!!!!
