Responsibility
After three weeks of rants, I must finally give some small kudos to the
49er organization. I applaud Terry Donahue stepping up this week and
taking his share of the blame for how bad this team is. Granted, it
took one of the worst football games in NFL history and a 1-10 record,
but he did it. He was critical of his draft choices, he was critical of
his contracts, and he was critical of the organization as a whole. I
applaud the fact he finally stepped up and took responsibility rather
than just blaming everything on the damn salary cap.
Okay, now that that is off my chest, where the hell is John York?!?!?!
It's now time for him to step up to the plate and do at least as much.
We are a forgiving lot in Ninerland. Brutal honesty will work with us.
We need York to step up to a microphone (proving he does exist in
Ninerland so we can remove the milk carton) and say "I have made some
mistakes with thisorganization. I am sorry. I am here to promise you
that we will do anything we can to turn this around!" But no, while
Terry Donahue steps forward finally, York remains hidden in the closet,
frustrated by the losses but counting the wad of cash he is not paying
out because of the "dead money." So great, Terry Donahue finally
becomes the scapegoat, but Dorkhead gives the guy a four year contract
extension.
So what we have left now is an owner who won't take any responsibility
with the fans, a GM who along with his handpicked staff has shown
nothing in talent evaluation, and a coaching staff that has proved it
is incapable of developing young talent. So while we look at the Browns
swallowing the final FOUR years of the Butch Davis contract, and even
Notre Dame sending Willingham packing with two years left, we are stuck
with TD for four years -- and Erickson for three years because our
missing owner is unwilling to step up to the plate and say hemade a
mistake and it's time to go in a different direction.
Bottom line, that would cost a lot of money, and we all know how York
feels about that. The worst problem with this horrid season -- there is
no light at the end of the tunnel.
