PROVE ME WRONG:
Let me be the first to say that I REALLY hope that we here at
dumpyork.com are WRONG! I really do. Our team obviously sucks now.
We'll have great draft picks. We'll turn those picks into great
players. After struggling in 2005 (but with some improvement) we'll get
some more good draft picks. Then in 2006 when the TV contracts kick in
and we are out of "Cap Hell," we can bring in some free agents to go
with our nice crop of young talent and make a run at the Super Bowl!
Trust me, I would love that. I would be the first person registering
dumpyorkwaswrong.com, or sorryyorks.com.
That is always the hope behind rebuilding. In this day and age of
parity in the NFL, a winning team is always just around the corner. But
the problem in Ninerland is we have no confidence in the people making
the decisions that are so crucial for a team to make those quick
turnarounds. If we end up with a top 3 draft pick, will York authorize
the money for that pick? Trading down is an option and not necessarily
a bad one. But acquiring more picks still adds to the payroll. So do we
trade down more so rather than multiple first, second or third round
picks we end up with multiple 4-7 picks? And just in case York does
step up and authorize those higher round picks, is Terry Donahue going
to make the good decisions? While you really can't rate a draft for
three years, so far none of the Donahue draft picks have really stood
out. So why will it matter if we pick 1st, 2nd, 10th, or 53rd? The
draft is still about getting lucky on talented kids no matter where the
selection. And now the Yorks gave a 4-year contract extension to the
man who will make those picks.
The point is, I really do hope that I am wrong. But right now I have no
confidence in this organization to do the right thing. I have no hope
that they will find a way to bring this team back from the brink. And
worse yet, I am not sure that they even have the desire to do it!
Judging from all the posts on this website.....I am not alone!
